      THE NEIGHBORING ISLANDS

In Kos you have a wonderful opportunity to visit the neighboring islands. There are ships
daily for Rhodes, Kalymnos, Leros, Patmos and Piraeus. Sometimes there are weekly ships
for Nissiros, Simi, Tilos, Chalki, Kassos, Karpathos, Anafi, Agios Nikolaos(Crete) and Siteia
(Crete). There are also boats for the Cyclades Islands: Naxos, Paros, Syros and Samos.

      RHODES

Rhodes is the biggest and most cosmopolitan island of the Dodecanese islands. It is a
historic city and many movies have been shot there. You can get to Rhodes by hydrofoil
which arrives at the main harbor of Mandraki. You can walk around the city and go to see
the Castle of the Knights and the old town. Old fashioned streets, houses, arched facades,
minarets, myriad shops and taverns which offer you delicious Greek cuisine.

      PATMOS

"The Jerusalem of the Aegean", where St John was inspired to write the Book of Revelations.
The majestic monastery crowns, the hill above the port where the grey stone wall protect
the main church and the five other chapels, with frescoes, icons, and precious objects.
Patmos is a traditional Greek island with small graphic roads and old impressive houses.

      KALYMNOS

Kalymnos is widely known as the "sponge divers" island, as a large percentage of its
population engage in this traditional occupation. Kalymnos is mountainous and rocky,
but has several good sandy beaches. An ideal place for climbers.

      NISSIROS

Nissiros is famous for its extinct volcano Polyvotis, with five craters of which occupy a
major part of the island. There is a frequent bus service from the port directly to the volcano.
There is also a holly monastery of Virgin with an interesting museum.

      LEROS

The island of Leros is covered in small fertile valleys, rolling green hills and sandy coves
encased by neo classical buildings and narrow alleyways.

      TURKEY

While in Kos, a good opportunity awaits to cross the waters and visit a different continent.
Sail to Bodrum, a Turkish town with a colorful history. Bodrum was founded by the Dorians
then conquered successively by the Persians, Alexander the Great, the Egyptians, the
Romans and Ottomans. Its bustling natural harbor is dominated by the castle of St John,
standing proudly with its huge towers which took 98 years to build. Bodrum also has lots
to offer bargain hunters and barterers at the bazaar, or you can simply take in its history.

  Enjoy Kos' island tours !
